Carmelo returning to Knicks
NEW YORK (TheSpread) – The New York Knicks will still have their franchise player heading into next season, as Carmelo Anthony has agreed to return to the team.
ESPN first reported on Saturday that the Knicks and Anthony were finalizing a new contract that would keep him in New York despite Anthony getting strong offers from the Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets. The contract is reportedly worth more than $122 million over five years.
The Knicks will now have their go-to piece in the Phil Jackson triangle offense that will be run by first-year coach Derek Fisher. Anthony averaged 27.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last season for New York and is averaging 25.3 points per game in his career.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, New York has been given 33/1 odds to win the NBA Championship next season. Cleveland is now the favorite with 7/2 odds while San Antonio has 9/2 odds.
