Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook BetNow.eu, the Spurs are 2-point favorites to beat the Trail Blazers. The total, meanwhile, sits at 224 points and as of this writing, 65% of the public betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Spurs to cover the point spread.
Portland Trail Blazers Fantasy Spin
Damian Lillard scored 24 points during a 122-110 win over the Pelicans on Friday, adding four rebounds, seven assists, two steals, two turnovers and four 3-pointers in 35 minutes. He was more of a pass-first player in the first half, which may have been due to the Pelicans’ postseason plan last spring to trap Dame — no Jrue Holiday makes a big difference. The Blazers get a back-to-back set and after the game Dame sounded like he was going to be out there on the road in San Antonio. He’s really starting to get it going again and his fantasy owners should expect him to be a top-10 player the rest of the way.
San Antonio Spurs Fantasy Spin
DeMar DeRozan hit 11-of-19 shots and 11-of-11 free throws for 33 points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals in 38 minutes of Tuesday’s 112-105 win over the Mavericks. Derozan is De-rolling and the Spurs have won six straight games, as a result. They went on a terrible losing streak in late February, when they lost 7-of-8 games, but they’ve righted the ship and now sit in the No. 6 spot in the East, and are almost sure to make the playoffs. The Kings are the No. 9 seed and are currently a full 5.0 games behind the Spurs and Clippers, and 4.0 games behind the No. 8 Jazz.
NBA Betting Trends
Portland
The Trail Blazers have covered eight of in their last nine on the road and nine of their last 12 overall.
San Antonio
The Spurs are a perfect 4-0 against the spread in their last four games overall and have covered in four of their last five home games.
Prediction
Both teams are hot both on the hardwood and at the betting window right now, so I don’t see much value in the spread. That said, the total appears too low. The over is a perfect 5-0 in the last five meetings between these two teams and is 23-8 in the previous 31 meetings overall. These teams have met three times this season, with Portland scoring 121 points in the first matchup and 127 in the third, while San Antonio racked up 131 points in the middle game. Clearly, both offenses are confident in this matchup and with the teams playing on tired legs (both teams played last night), I like the over to cash again tonight.
