Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook BetNow.eu, the Jazz are 6.5-point favorites to beat the Spurs. The total, meanwhile, sits at 222 points and as of this writing, 55% of the public betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Spurs to cover the point spread.
San Antonio Spurs Fantasy Spin
DeMar DeRozan returned from a one-game absence during a 127-118 loss to the Blazers on Thursday, scoring 35 points with six rebounds, six assists and five turnovers in 35 minutes. On the TNT broadcast, coach Gregg Popovich said he "tapped" DeRozan as his point guard while Derrick White is out. Maybe the change in role could get him going a la Donovan Mitchell because DeRozan's scoring had dropped in every month from October to January. He is going to be 30 this summer and has mentioned the age factor has affected his ability to recover from games, so he'll be at risk of getting Popped for some DNP-REST games.
Utah Jazz Fantasy Spin
Ricky Rubio had 13 points (5-of-9 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), nine rebounds, six assists, three steals and five turnovers during a lopsided win vs. Phoenix on Wednesday. Rubio could be playing on borrowed time since the Jazz are strongly linked to trade talks with Memphis for Mike Conley. It's also been floated that Kyle Lowry could be an option, but that doesn't seem to have legs -- if Utah does deal for an All-Star caliber PG, though, Rubio would certainly be headed out of town. He's a starter no matter which uniform he's wearing, though, so owners should sit tight until the deadline passes.
NBA Betting Trends
The Spurs are winless against the spread over their last six games but are 9-3-1 at the betting window in their last 13 games following a straight up loss.
The Jazz are just 2-5 against the number in their last seven games playing on two days of rest and are 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six games coming off a win.
The over has been profitable in this series, cashing in eight of the previous 10 meetings and going 4-1 in the last five meetings in Utah. The over is also 8-1 in the Spurs’ last nine games overall, is 25-9-2 in their last 36 road games and cashed in five of their previous six conference matchups as well. On the other side, the over is 4-1 in the Jazz’ last five games and is 7-1 in their last eight games versus a team with a winning record.
