CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Hendrick Motorsports has signed an anti-hunger campaign to be the primary sponsor on Jeff Gordon’s car beginning next season.
The multiple year deal will be coordinated through the AARP Foundation. A person familiar with Hendrick’s sponsorship agreement confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the official announcement is scheduled for Wednesday.
The campaign will be the first cause-related sponsorship of its kind in NASCAR.
The deal first was reported Monday by The Charlotte Observer.
DuPont and PepsiCo will continue their longtime sponsorships with Gordon in a smaller role. The two companies likely will be primary sponsors on the No. 24 Chevrolet in races that are still available.
