FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – Denny Hamlin is hoping for another turning point in Texas.
Hamlin has won the last two races at the 1 1/2-mile, high-banked Texas Motor Speedway. He goes into Saturday night’s race there 19th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings.
Last April, Hamlin limped into Texas for the April race following surgery to repair the torn ACL in his left knee. He won the race, and later called it the “turning point” in his season when he finished a career-best second in points and doubled his victory total from eight to 16.
Hamlin last week was hurt by an untimely caution at Martinsville. He went from the front pack to a lap down and finished 12th, ending his three-race winning streak at the half-mile track in his home state.
