Retirment not happening for Gordon

LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) โ€“ At age 43, Jeff Gordon doesnโ€™t feel himself slowing up anytime too soon. Can the NASCAR veteran make another run at a title in 2015?

Gordon sat down for an interview with ESPN The Magazine and let them know that retirement is far from his mind.

โ€œI don’t believe in retirement, No. 1, but I know that I won’t always be a full-time Cup driver. That time is coming,โ€ Gordon said in the interview. โ€œRemember in May, my back got so bad I couldn’t get out of bed, let alone into a race car? So will that play a role in retirement sooner rather than later? It’s very possible. It seems to be the one limiting factor that I have right now. But there’s no plan. There’s no countdown. I’m racing.โ€

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Gordon has 6/1 odds to win the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. He joins Kevin Harvick as the only drivers behind Jimmie Johnson in the odds. Johnson is the favorite with 5/1 odds.

Gordon finished sixth in the standings this past season, but just missed a shot at competing in the final race for the title. He was one point shy of qualifying for one of the final four spots. Gordon is a four-time Sprint Cup champion, but his last victory came in 2001. He hasnโ€™t cracked the top five in the last five seasons.
