Jimmie Johnson is a 2.5/1 favorite to win this weekend’s second to last Sprint Cup Series race of the 2008 season according to oddsmakers from online sports books SBG Global and Sportsbook.com.

Johnson will start on the pole for Sunday’s Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 from Phoenix International Raceway after posting a qualifying lap speed of 134.725mph.

Carl Edwards is the oddsmakers second favorite to win the 2008 Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500. Edwards, who qualified 15th for Sunday’s race and is second in the Sprint Cup Standings behind Johnson, is currently listed at 5.5/1 odds to win. In eight career Sprint Cup Series starts at Phoenix, Edwards has three top 5’s, five top 5’s and an average finish of 14.5.

Rounding out the top 5 favorites to win the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 are Kyle Busch at 7/1, Jeff Gordon at 8/1 and Denny Hamlin at 9/1.
