ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Third baseman Travis Metcalf was put on the disabled list Wednesday by the Texas Rangers, who activated utility player Jerry Hairston.
Metcalf strained his left hamstring running out a grounder Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox.
Hairston had been out since Aug. 8 with a stiff back and was about to begin a rehabilitation assignment. The Rangers decided to bring Hairston back to replace Metcalf.
“He’s a guy I can depend on for late defense and base running,” manager Ron Washington said.
Ramon Vazquez started at third base Wednesday night.
