BOSTON (AP) -Mike Maroth, the Detroit Tigers’ scheduled starter Thursday afternoon, was scratched due to illness and was replaced by right-hander Zach Minor, who was recalled from Triple-A Toledo earlier in the day.
Maroth, 3-0 with a 4.69 ERA, was scheduled to start the game Wednesday that was postponed by rain and rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader Thursday.
The Tigers said Maroth was “sick” before the game.
Minor, 0-4 with a 5.57 ERA in eight games with the Mud Hens, was recalled after right-hander Jeremy Bonderman was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a blister on his middle finger. Bonderman missed his previous start, and manager Jim Leyland said Monday that if he couldn’t make his next start the team would likely have to put him on the DL.
Bonderman’s stay on the DL is retroactive to May 9.
