Jose Abreu will not play in the White Sox’ series against the Twins after being diagnosed with left ankle inflammation. Abreu suffered the injury during a slide into home plate on Sunday. The good news is X-rays came back clean and an MRI “only” showed a little inflammation. The club expects the reigning American League MVP to be back this weekend against the Yankees, although they won’t rush him if he’s not quite ready. Andrew Vaughn is at first base Monday, with Leury Garcia covering left field and Billy Hamilton center.

Aaron Judge is not in the Yankees’ starting lineup Thursday against the Rangers. This appears to be a routine day of rest for Judge, who’s sitting on 12 home runs and an overall .294/.392/.580 batting line through 40 games played. Miguel Andujar, Brett Gardner, and Tyler Wade will start across the outfield for the Yankees in the afternoon tilt at Texas. Luke Voit is at DH, with Mike Ford covering first base.
