White Sox to sign Melky Cabrera
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – The White Sox continued their busy offseason late on Saturday as they signed outfielder Melky Cabrera to a three-year contract.
Bruce Levine of 679 The Score.com was the first to report the Cabrera signing. The exact terms of the contract aren’t yet known but the deal is expected to be in the $45 million range. There was a report late last week that the Mariners were interested in Cabrera for three years, but clearly the outfielder liked the offer from the White Sox better.
The 30-year-old batted .301 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 139 games this past season for the Blue Jays. The Giants were also reportedly interested in a reunion but nothing ever materlized.
The White Sox have now added starter Jeff Samardzija via trade, and closer David Robertson and first baseman Adam LaRoche via free agency. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Chicago is now 25/1 to win the 2015 World Series.
