Nationals’ Roark posts quality start in loss to Yankees
Tanner Roark was charged with three runs over six innings Tuesday, taking a loss as the Nationals fell to the Yankees. Didi Gregorius popped a pair of solo home runs off of Roark. He yielded just four singles and two walks otherwise, with the Yankees plating their other run on a sac fly. All told, it’s not a bad showing in an obviously difficult matchup. Unfortunately for Roark, his next outing will also come against the Yankees. At this it will be at home.
Blue Jays’ Gaviglio allows five runs vs. Rays
Sam Gaviglio was tagged for five runs in 3 1/3 innings by the Rays in Monday’s loss. Gaviglio came in with a surprising 2.51 ERA in four starts and two relief appearances, but he doesn’t really have the stuff to back that up. He allowed 16 homers in 74 1/3 innings for the Mariners and Royals last year. This year, he’s at five in 32 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are now winless in their last four games versus the Blue Jays.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 1-4 in Gaviglio’s last five starts and are 1-4 in their last five games when their opponent allows two runs or less in their previous game.
Prediction:
The Blue Jays are hot, winning six in a row at home and five straight at home when facing a right-handed starter. Meanwhile, the Nationals are struggling, losing four of five overall, and are just 3-7 in Roark’s last 10 road starts. They’re also 2-9 in Roark’s last 11 outings coming off a quality start in his last appearance. The Nationals are a fairly large public team today but I’m fading them.
The Pick: Toronto Blue Jays +110
