Nationals’ Fedde allows three runs in loss to Phillies
Erick Fedde let in three runs in six-plus innings and was charged with a loss to the Phillies on Saturday. He was looking good through six frames, having yielded only two runs. But he was sent back out for the seventh and allowed a lead-off double to Maikel Franco before being relieved. That runner came around to score against the bullpen and it took the shine off his feel-good outing. The rookie is filling in for the injured Stephen Strasburg and probably hasn’t pitched well enough to stay in the majors after the ace returns to action. Fedde is 0-3 with a 5.32 ERA after four starts.
Phillies’ Pivetta strikes out seven in no-decision vs. Nationals
Nick Pivetta pitched well in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday night, racking up seven strikeouts over five innings of two-run baseball. Pivetta allowed eight hits and a pair of walks in the ballgame. All of the damage against him came in the fourth inning, which included a solo home run by Anthony Rendon. He also sat through nearly an hour-long rain delay and returned to work a scoreless fifth inning. He left in line for a victory, but the Phillies’ bullpen was unable to hold his lead for him. Pivetta will carry a 4.06 ERA and 1.23 WHIP into a rematch against the Nationals at home on Friday.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 1-5 in their last six games and 0-6 in their last six road contests.
Philadelphia
The Phillies have won six of their last eight games versus the rest of the National League East.
Prediction:
The Nationals are struggling mightily but I’m going to take a shot on them here. The Phillies are just 1-5 in Pivetta’s last six starts and 0-4 in his last four outings versus the Nationals. Despite losing on Thursday night, the Nationals are still 18-8 in their last 26 games played in Philadelphia and are 26-13 in their last 39 games versus the Phillies overall.
The Pick: Washington Nationals +105
