Hellickson set for Nationals’ debut on Monday in New York
Jeremy Hellickson will indeed make his Nationals’ debut on Monday against the Mets. He’ll be taking the spot of A.J. Cole in the Nationals’ rotation. Hellickson recently threw 92 pitches over six innings in a start in West Palm Beach on Monday. He went 8-11 with a 5.43 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP over 164 innings last season between the Phillies and Orioles.
Quotable: “We’ve just got to keep pushing,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said. “We’re going to win games, I know that. We’ve just got to play. We’ve got to capitalize in big moments. We haven’t done that. And we’ve got to be able to put teams away early, when it counts, not wait until late. We had opportunities to put this team away today early and we couldn’t do it.”
Mets’ deGrom looking for better outing following rough start vs. Marlins
Jacob deGrom gave up four runs over six innings Tuesday versus the Marlins.
It was disappointing that deGrom came away with the no-decision in a very winnable game. He beat better teams (the Cardinals and Nationals) in his first two starts, but he was undone by one bad inning in this one; all four runs scored in the fifth.
Quotable: “This team is really close, even though it’s only been together for a couple months now,” said Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo, who finished a double shy of the cycle Sunday. “I think everybody’s pulling for each other. And when you’re pulling on the same end of the rope and everybody’s trying to get that team win and put good at-bats together, you’re going to break through every now and then.”
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 47-16 in their last 63 games at Citi Field.
New York
The Mets are 8-2 in deGrom’s last 10 starts versus the Nationals.
Prediction:
I don’t understand why the Mets are currently listed at only -110 but I fully expect their odds to go up. Nevertheless, they’re a great play tonight. The Nationals have dropped four of their last five games, are 2-6 in their last eight divisional games and have dropped six of eight following a loss. Meanwhile, the Mets have won four of deGrom’s last five starts, are 9-3 in his last 12 outings versus the rest of the National League East, and are 20-8 in his last 28 starts after allowing two runs or less in their previous game.
The Pick: New York Mets -110
