The Cardinals looked like they might drop another game on Wednesday, but put up five runs in the top of the ninth to get the 5-2 win. Tommy Edman had a pinch-hit three-run home run to give St. Louis the three-run lead. Paul Goldschmidt and Harrison Bader each had two hits for St. Louis in the win. On the mound, Adam Wainwright got the start and pitched five innings, allowing two runs. The St. Louis bullpen then threw four scoreless inning. John Brebbia got the win by striking out six in 2.1 innings to improve to 2-3 on the year.
Mariners also in a funk
Seattle has lost five of its last six games coming into today’s game after splitting the first two games of this series with the Cardinals. The Mariners are 38-52 on the season, 18-26 at home and 57-29 with the over. Matt Carasiti is getting the start for Seattle today. He is 0-0 on the year with a 2.25 ERA.
Mike Leake saw a great outing ruined on Wednesday. He threw 7.2 scoreless innings, striking out seven with no walks and just five hits allowed. Austin Adams and Roenis Elias allowed the five runs over just 1.1 innings of work to blow things for Seattle. At the plate, Dylan Moore had the lone RBI for Seattle on a solo home run. No player had multiple hits.

Prediction:
Carasiti is a relief starter that hasn’t gone more than an inning in any appearance. He has given up just one run over four innings this year. However, the Seattle pen can’t necessarily lock things down. By trading their best bat, Seattle’s hitting has also become increasingly unreliable. Wacha has been pretty strong in June, as four of his five appearances have seen him give up a combined three runs. His ERA is actually stronger on the road than at home and I think he can do well against this poor Seattle lineup.
