St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Tommy Edman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a pair of runs scored in the Cardinals’ blowout loss to the Padres on Saturday. Edman was the lone bright spot in an otherwise dismal performance from the Cardinals in San Diego. The 24-year-old infielder launched a leadoff homer against Padres rookie sensation Chris Paddack, his second round-tripper of the season. It’s an extremely small sample size (29 plate appearances), but he’s hitting .321 with a pair of homers and two steals at the big-league level. At a bare minimum, Edman is someone to keep on the fantasy radar in deeper mixed leagues.
San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Eric Hosmer went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a run scored in the Padres’ blowout win over the Cardinals on Saturday. Hosmer is quietly cobbling together one of the most impressive rebound campaigns we’ve witnessed in recent years. The 29-year-old first baseman owns a six-game hitting streak and has also gone deep twice during that span. He’s hitting .297/.351/.468 with 47 runs scored, 13 homers and 59 RBI across 345 plate appearances this season.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are winless over their last five games.
San Diego
The Padres are a perfect 4-0 in their last four games overall.
Prediction:
Despite the Cardinals’ recent slide, I do like them today as a small underdog. They’re 5-0 in Miles Mikolas’ last five starts versus the National League West and are 9-1 in his last 10 outings after allowing five runs or more in their previous game. They’re also 11-3 in Mikolas’ last 14 starts versus a team with aw inning record and are 39-16 in their last 55 games after losing the first two games of a series.
Sunday MLB Prediction: St. Louis Cardinals +102
