Cardinals’ Mikolas allows one run, still loses to Braves
Miles Mikolas held the Braves to one run in 6 1/3 innings and took a tough-luck loss on Friday. He breezed through six innings without allowing any runs and then ran into trouble in the seventh. After loading the bases he drilled Ender Inciarte with a pitch to plate the only run he would allow in the contest. He only struck out one batter while issuing one walk and yielding seven base hits — all of which were singles. He falls to 8-3 with a sterling 2.61 ERA and 0.99 WHIP after 16 starts.
Diamondbacks’ Corbin strong for six innings vs. Giants
Patrick Corbin held the Giants to one run in six innings Friday in a no-decision. Just when it seemed like Corbin was hitting a rough patch, he’s pulled out of it by allowing one run over 13 innings in his last two starts. Tonight’s start was his fourth against the Giants this year. He has a 1.69 ERA in those outings.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are winless in their last six games played on Wednesday.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks have dropped nine of their last 10 games played on Wednesday.
Prediction:
The Diamondbacks have lost five of Corbin’s last six home starts, are 0-5 in his last five outings coming off four days of rest, and are 6-13 in his last 19 home starts versus a team with a winning record. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have won four of Mikolas’ last five road starts and are a perfect 5-0 in his last five outings when he pitches the third game of a series. I like the under, but ultimately see more value in taking the underdog Cardinals.
The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals +125
