Cardinals’ Flaherty beat up a bit by Indians
Jack Flaherty gave up four runs in four innings and was charged with a loss to the Indians on Wednesday. He served up back-to-back dingers to Edwin Encarnacion and Lonnie Chisenhall in the second inning. He allowed a total of six hits and two walks while striking out five in the abbreviated outing. The rookie hurler has pitched very well for the season as a whole despite today’s sub-par effort. He has a 3-3 record with a sterling 2.92 ERA and 1.07 WHIP after 11 starts. The 22-year-old has a strong 73:18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 61 2/3 innings.
Diamondbacks’ Greinke pitches seven scoreless innings vs. Marlins
Zack Greinke scattered seven hits over seven innings and combined with three relievers on a shutout of the Marlins on Thursday. Greinke helped himself by going 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate. He even stole a base and is now 7-for-7 on attempted steals over the course of his career. Greinke has pitched 13 scoreless innings his last two times out, lowering his ERA from 3.90 to 3.41.

The Diamondbacks have won 21 of Greinke’s last 28 home starts.
Prediction:
The Cardinals are one of the most maddening teams in baseball this season. After dropping four straight games last week, they rattled off four in a row, including two straight at Miller Park and two straight against the Indians at home when Cleveland started Mike Clevenger and Corey Kluber in back-to-back starts. Naturally, after winning those four consecutive games, the Cardinals went on to lose four straight, all at home. Nevertheless, whenever you think the Cardinals are about to zig, they zag. That’s why I’m going to fade the public and take St. Louis tonight. Flathery has been excellent outside of that start Wednesday against the Indians and the D-Backs have lost four straight so now is the time to jump on the dog.
The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals +125
