Giants’ Rodriguez struggles in loss to Nationals
Dereck Rodriguez struggled in a losing effort against the Nationals on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits over his 2 2/3 innings. Rodriguez also issued three walks on the afternoon while striking out two. The 25-year-old right-hander now sports a 5.25 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 12/6 K/BB ratio across 12 innings on the season. He remains an unappealing fantasy option for Thursday’s start against the Marlins in Miami.
Marlins’ Straily unable to make it through fourth inning vs. Padres
Dan Straily surrendered four runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 innings while taking a no-decision in Saturday’s loss to the Padres. While Straily did not walk a batter in the contest, the Padres were patient in their approach to him and jumped on him for a parade of hits. At the time he was pulled with two outs in the fourth inning, he had already thrown 87 pitches. Three of the four runs on his line scored in the first inning, with Cory Spangenberg and Freddy Galvis burning him for a pair of RBI knocks. The other run in the frame came home on a passed ball. Galvis would strike once more against Straily to lead off the fourth inning, swatting a solo home run to give the Padres a 4-1 lead. The right-hander has now surrendered at least four runs in two of his last three starts. He’ll bring a 4.08 ERA and 1.49 WHIP into a home showdown with the Giants when he next toes the rubber.
