Padres’ Richard only so-so in last start
Clayton Richard allowed three earned runs, five hits and three walks with six strikeouts over five innings in a loss at Arizona on Saturday. After turning in a quality start on March 29 in his first outing of the season he has allowed three or more runs while posting just five innings in each of his past four assignments. Walks have done him in and kept him from going deeper into the game, as he has yielded exactly three free passes in each of the past four outings. He’ll look to get on track on Friday against the visiting Mets.
Giants’ Holland knocked around by Dodgers
Derek Holland was pulled after giving up four runs in 3 1/3 innings Friday against the Dodgers. Holland’s stuff isn’t nearly good enough to make up for spotty control, and he walked four batters in this one. He’s yet to pick up a win in five starts for the Giants, amassing a 5.76 ERA. His time to prove himself could be running short.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 4-1 in their last five games against the Giants and are 5-2 in Richard’s last seven starts when coming off four days of rest.
San Francisco
The Giants are 5-0 in their last five games coming off a loss and are 7-3 in their last 10 games despite losing last night.
Prediction:
The Padres are 6-2 in Richard’s last eight road starts versus the Giants and have won five of his last seven outings versus San Francisco overall. Meanwhile, the Giants are 1-4 in Holland’s last five starts and if they had more healthy bodies to fill out their rotation he likely wouldn’t be in the starting five. I’ll take my chances with the underdog Padres this afternoon.
The Pick: San Diego Padres +120
