Padres’ Richard allows four runs in loss to Rangers
Clayton Richard let in four runs in seven innings and took a loss to the Rangers on Wednesday. He gave up a lot of contact, fanning just three batters and allowing 10 base hits in the contest. He also drilled three batters with pitches. Adrian Beltre, Jurickson Profar, Delino DeShields and Isiah Kiner-Falefa all notched RBI hits against Richard in the ballgame. The veteran left-hander falls to 7-7 with a 4.29 ERA in 17 starts on the season.
A’s Bassitt throws six shutout innings vs. Tigers
Chris Bassitt hurled six shutout innings Wednesday in the Athletics’ win over the Tigers. Bassitt struggled with walks, allowing five free passes over 102 pitches, though he also registered five strikeouts. The only hits he gave up were a double to Nicholas Castellanos in the first and a single to John Hicks in the second inning. Wednesday was Bassitt’s third victory in 27 career starts. The right-hander has spent most of the year in Triple-A but should remain in Oakland while Daniel Mengden recovers from a foot injury. Bassitt will return to the mound Tuesday against the Padres.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres have won five of Richard’s last six starts.
Oakland
The A’s have lost five of Bassitt’s last six starts.
Prediction:
I’m rolling with the hotter team tonight. The A’s have won seven of their last 10, are 4-1 in their last five home games and have taken 35 of their last 51 games when facing a team with a losing record. The Padres, meanwhile, have lost 11 of 14 overall, are 1-4 in their last five road games and have dropped six of seven interleague games.
The Pick: Oakland A’s -135
