Chris Sale will start Game 1 of the ALCS against the Astros. Sale will take the ball on Friday night for the opener of the best-of-seven series at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Nathan Eovaldi draws the starting assignment for Game 2 on Saturday afternoon. The 32-year-old lefty was shelled for five runs over one inning of work in his last postseason start against the Rays in Game 2 of the ALDS last week. He’ll aim to rebound as the Red Sox attempt to make it back to the World Series for the second time in the last four years.

Framber Valdez will start for the Astros in Game 1 of the ALCS on Friday night against the Red Sox. Luis Garcia is on tap for ALCS Game 2 with Lance McCullers (forearm) likely out for this round. Valdez registered a sharp 3.14 ERA with 125 strikeouts over 134 2/3 innings (22 starts) during the 2021 regular season, but he mostly struggled in his lone ALDS outing versus the White Sox last week.
