Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Spin
Bryan Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday’s loss to the Mets. The Pirates were mostly out of this one from the word “go,” as Chris Archer surrendered six runs in the first inning. However, they managed an interesting ninth inning, with both Reynolds and later Jose Osuna launching two-run home runs to bring the Pirates to within 8-7. The team would be unable to come up with a final, game-tying run, however. For the year, Reynolds is hitting a respectable .326/.397/.498 with eight home runs and 42 RBI in 279 at-bats during what is his rookie campaign in the bigs.
Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin
Tucker Barnhart went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles and a double in Sunday’s win over the Rockies. Lovely day at the office for Barnhart, who came through with a pair of clutch run-scoring hits in Sunday’s affair. He notched an RBI single in the second inning to give the Reds a 2-0 lead, then following a game-tying two-run home run by Yonder Alonso in the fifth inning, picked up a go-ahead RBI single to give his team the 3-2 lead which they would hold through to the end of the contest. Overall this season, Barnhart is hitting .214/.311/.339 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 168 at-bats. The catcher is just now coming back from an oblique strain which cost him about a month of action.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are winless in Jordan Lyles’ last eight starts and are 0-4 in his last four outings on the road.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds are 5-1 in Sonny Gray’s last six home starts and 9-3 in his last 12 outings overall.
Prediction:
The under has been profitable in Gray’s starts, going 4-1 in his last five outings overall and 3-1-1 in his last five starts at home. On the other side, the under is 7-3-1 in the Pirates’ last 11 games when facing a right-handed starter, is 7-3-1 in their last 11 games following a loss and is 7-1 in their last eight games away from PNC Park when facing a righty.
The Pick: Pirates/Reds UNDER 9.5
