Phillies’ Arrieta works seven scoreless innings vs. Dodgers
Jake Arrieta scattered six hits with two walks and five strikeouts across seven scoreless innings in a victory Tuesday on the road against the Dodgers. Arrieta threw 62 of his 103 pitches in the outing, yielding just six singles while uncorking one wild pitch. He has been ace-like in the month of May, posting a 2-1 record with a 0.90 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 30 innings in five outings. He’ll look to keep up the good work into June, working next Sunday in San Francisco.
X-rays come back negative on Giants’ Rodriguez
Dereck Rodriguez left Tuesday’s game against the Rockies after taking a comebacker off his right leg in the fifth inning. The ball, which was 108 mph off Ian Desmond’s bat, appeared to catch Rodriguez on his right shin. He entered the game in the second inning after Jeff Samardzija departed with tightness in his right shoulder. The X-rays came back negative and Rodriguez is now set to face the Phillies on Sunday.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies have dropped the first two games of this series but have still won six of their last eight versus the Giants. The problem is playing in San Francisco, where they are just 3-11 in their last 14 games at AT&T Park.
San Francisco
The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams.
Prediction:
I have not had a good handle on this series, as I took the Phillies on both Friday and Saturday night. The Giants continue to bounce between a team that is overmatched because of injuries and gritty performer that wins games despite half their roster being on the disabled list. Nevertheless, the Phillies have their ace on the mound, the Giants are starting a kid that was in the minors less than a week ago, and Philadelphia’s money line odds aren’t that expensive. The Phillies will try to save face today in San Francisco and so will I. I’m going to the well one more time.
The Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -130
