Padres 20/1 to win WS following trade
SAN DIEGO, CA (The Spread) – The Padres made yet another trade ahead of Opening Night in Major League Baseball and appear stocked to make at least a playoff run in 2015.
After acquiring Matt Kemp, Derek Norris, Will Middlebrooks, Justin Upton, Wil Myers and signing ace James Shields over the winter, the Padres made yet another move on Sunday in efforts to make a postseason run this season. San Diego acquired closer Craig Kimbrel and outfielder Melvin Upton from the Braves in exchange for outfielders Cameron Maybin and Carlos Quentin, as well as right-hander Matt Wisler and outfield prospect Jordan Paroubeck. Atlanta also received the 41st pick in the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Padres are 20/1 to win the World Series, which was surprisingly their odds before they made the move. The Braves’ odds didn’t change either, as they remain 66/1 long shots to win the Fall Classic in 2015.
The Padres will open their season in L.A. today at 4:10PM ET when they visit the Dodgers. With Clayton Kershaw on the mound to oppose James Shields, the Dodgers are -200 money line favorites.
