Yankees’ German allows four runs in loss to Tigers
Domingo German yielded four runs in 6 2/3 innings to take a loss to the Tigers in the second game of Monday’s doubleheader. German didn’t look bad tonight, but he has given up 19 earned runs over 21 innings in his last four starts, putting his rotation spot in some jeopardy. It doesn’t help that the Yankees haven’t been scoring for him; he’s still winless for the season.
Mets’ Matz pitches well but takes tough loss vs. Cubs
Steven Matz took a tough loss on Sunday, allowing just two runs in seven innings against the Cubs. There didn’t appear to be any issues with the strain on his left middle finger that caused him to go just three innings in his previous start. Matz was good; allowing five hits and two walks and striking out seven. Unfortunately for he and the Mets, Jon Lester was better. It’s still nice to see the southpaw continuing to pitch well, and he’s lowered his ERA from 4.98 on April 25 to 3.42 on the year. He’ll look to continue his good run — and get some run support — on Saturday against the Yankees.
MLB Betting Trends
Yankees
The Yankees are now a perfect 5-0 in their last five games against the Mets and are 6-1 in their last seven road games versus their in-state rival.
Mets
The under is 19-9 in the last 28 meetings between these two teams hosted by the Mets following last night’s 4-1 result.
Prediction:
I’m going to spend on the Yankees. The Mets have some offensive potential but they go too quiet for too long and while German has cooled since his electric debut, he still has good stuff and strikeout potential. The Bombers aren’t swinging the bats as well as what we’ve seen from them this season and Matz is only a league-average arm. If one of these two pitchers (or bullpens) is going to falter, my money is on the Mets (and thus, the Yankees).
The Pick: New York Yankees -160
