Gray coming off a quality start in win over Orioles
Sonny Gray posted a quality start in last Saturday’s victory over the Orioles. He allowed three runs on four hits over six innings and struck out four on the afternoon. He also walked two.
The start was an improvement off Gray’s first outing of the year in which he struck out seven but lasted only four innings. Gray allowed only one run in that start but surrendered a bunch of baserunners in the process. He allowed seven hits and three walks.
Porcello has been dominant in two starts
In his first start of the season, Rick Porcello allowed just one run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Rays. He also struck out four and walked one in the performance. Then in his second start of the season, Porcello pitched well against the Rays, striking out seven over 1/3 innings of three-run ball.
In that outing, the former American League Cy Young Award winner scattered just six hits and didn’t walk a batter in the game. He allowed a two-run single to Brad Miller in the first inning, then shut down the Rays until newcomer Denard Span drove in a run in the eighth. Porcello is 2-0 on the season and owns a 2.84 ERA.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 0-4 in Gray’s last four starts coming off four days of rest and are 0-4 in his last four outings when coming off a quality start in his last appearance.
Boston
The Red Sox have been lights out when Porcello is on the mound, winning five of his last six starts and going 11-5 in his last 16 home outings versus a team with a losing record.
Prediction:
Despite the last two games sailing over the projected total, take the under in this one. In Porcello’s last seven starts versus the Yankees, the under is 6-0-1. In his last six home starts versus the Bombers, the under is 5-0-1.
The under is also 5-3 in the last eight meetings in Boston and has cashed in five of the last eight meetings overall.
The Pick: Yankees/Red Sox under 9
