New York Mets Fantasy Spin
X-rays on the injured right hand of rookie slugger Pete Alonso came back negative on Saturday. Alonso underwent the imaging as a precautionary measure after being hit on the hand, but fortunately there was no structural damage found. Consider him day-to-day, but it would be surprising if he wasn’t right back in the Mets’ starting lineup on Sunday.
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul Goldschmidt blasted his eighth home run of the season as the Cardinals thumped the Mets on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. Goldschmidt did his damage once the game had already been decided on Saturday, slugging a solo shot off of Paul Sewald in the eighth inning to increase the Cardinals’ advantage to 10-2. It was his only hit in five at-bats on the day. For the season, he’s now hitting .235/.333/.556 with eight homers and 13 RBI, though he has still yet to even attempt a stolen base through his first 20 games with the Cardinals.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 4-1 in Noah Syndergaard’s last five road starts.
St. Louis
The Cardinals have won five of their last seven games played on Sunday.
Prediction:
Dakota Hudson is one of the better pitching prospects in the Cardinals’ organization but he’s learning on the fly. Walks are his biggest problem, as he owns a 14.9% walk rate through 40 2/3 innings in the majors. He’s also surrendering home runs at a 3.38 HR/9 ratio and this Mets offense is underrated. The Cardinals have more than enough offense to support Hudson but I don’t expect Syndergaard to pitch like he did in his last start in Philadelphia when he got shelled.
The Pick: New York Mets -135
