Mets vs. Marlins Prediction
The New York Mets are off to a hot start. After sweeping the Nationals over the weekend, the Mets have to be looking forward to heading South to take on a Marlins team that is rebuilding. Can New York stay hot in South Beach?

New York Mets Dominant in Every Phase thus far
The Mets are coming off a sweep of the National League East champion Washington Nationals over the weekend. They beat the Nats 6-5 in 12 innings on Sunday as Yoenis Cespedes had the game-winning RBI single. Not only has Cespedes been great in the early going, but the Mets’ bullpen has been lights out as well. They allowed just four hits and one run in seven innings of work last night. Seth Lugo pitched three innings in the win, while Robert Gsellman got six outs.
Given how the Mets’ bullpen was overworked last night, New York will need its ace Noah Syndergaard to eat up innings tonight. Syndergaard has already struck out 18 batters in 10 innings so far this season and was 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA a year ago against the Marlins.
Miami Marlins’ Urena off to a so-so Start in 2018
The Marlins will counter tonight with Jose Urena, who is 0-1 with a 4.97 ERA to start the season. He has nine strikeouts in 11 innings but he was touched up by the Cubs in the season opener. He bounced back in his second start, allowing just one run in seven innings pitching against the Boston Red Sox.
The Marlins showed some resiliency over the weekend in Philadelphia. After they were drubbed 20-1 by the Phillies on Saturday, the Marlins blew an early 3-0 lead on Sunday before recovering in the later innings to pick up a 6-3 victory.
“After that loss on Saturday, we knew we had to put it behind us,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “It was good we got on the board early. Then we hung in there, and our bullpen did a nice job.”
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets have struggled in recent meetings with the Marlins. They’re 2-7 in their last nine games in Miami and winless at 0-4 in their last four games versus the Marlins overall.
Washington
The Marlins are just 1-5 in Urena’s last six home starts and are winless at 0-4 in his last four outings overall.
Prediction:
The Mets are red-hot but I’m not comfortable laying -215 on the moneyline tonight on a road team facing a divisional rival (no matter how bad that divisional rival might be). Plus, with the Mets working with a depleted bullpen, I think it’s best to stay away from the side.
The better bet in my eyes is the under. Syndergaard should pitch well and if the Urena that pitched against Boston and not Chicago shows up tonight, then he should keep a tired Mets’ lineup in check. The under is 16-5 in Syndergaard’s last 12 starts during Game 1 of a series and is 12-5-3 in Urena’s last 20 outings coming off a quality start in his last appearance.
The Pick: Mets/Marlins under 7.5
