Mets’ Syndergaard coming off sensational outing vs. Brewers
Noah Syndergaard was sensational over 5 1/3 innings on Sunday, giving up one unearned run and striking out 11 in a no-decision.
Thor had the good stuff on Sunday, but because he was missing so many bats, he reached the 100 pitch mark early in the sixth and was pulled. It’s the second double-digit strikeout game of the year for the right-hander, and we’re going to guess it’s not the last.
Another one could be in store when Syndergaard is back on the mound in Atlanta against the Braves on Friday.
Braves’ Newcomb coming off no-decision vs. Cubs
Sean Newcomb allowed three runs — two earned — in 5 1/3 innings and had to settle for a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.
His offense gave him a big early lead and he did solid work to keep it, but the bullpen blew it all in epic fashion in the late innings. Newcomb struck out seven batters, walked four and allowed six knocks. Outfielder Albert Almora burned him for a solo dinger in the first inning.
The young left-hander’s record holds at 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA after three starts. He will face the Mets on Thursday.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 4-0 in Syndergaard’s last four starts and have won 15 of his last 22 outings on the road.
Atlanta
The Braves are 3-7 in Newcomb’s last 10 starts versus a team with a winning record and are winless in his last five home outings when facing a team with a winning record.
Prediction:
This game has ‘under’ written all over it. We already know what Syndergaard brings to the table but Newcomb has just over 100 innings in the majors under his belt so he’s a bit of an unknown. That said, Newcomb has elite strikeout ability and the Mets’ bats have cooled a bit recently. The under is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings between these two teams and is 6-2 in the last eight meetings in Atlanta. With the total sitting at 7.5 for Friday’s game, I’ll bet on a reversal of Thursday night’s offensive barrage.
The Pick: Braves/Mets under 7.5
