Did Red Sox make offer for Hamels?
BOSTON, MA (The Spread) – According to at least one report, the Red Sox were one of the teams that made a trade offer to the Phillies for starter Cole Hamels.
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe is reporting that Boston was one of the four teams that made an offer to Philadelphia for Hamels, who has been mentioned in trade rumors this entire MLB offseason. Per Cafardo, the offer “was heavy on the major league side,” with the Sox “trying to avoid giving up any of their top prospects.”
The biggest hurdle when it comes to acquiring Hamels seems to be dealing with Philadelphia GM Ruben Amaro Jr., who has reportedly been asking for multiple top prospects when it comes to trade talks involving Hamels. The Phillies reportedly want Red Sox prospect Blake Swihart in any deal for Hamels, but Boston refuses to part with the catcher.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Red Sox are favored to win the AL Pennant in 2015 at 11/2 odds and are 10/1 to win the 2015 World Series. Those WS odds puts Boston only behind the Nationals (13/2) and Dodgers (17/2).
