Friday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – The resurgent Seattle Mariners are back in the AL West race as they prepare for a big home series versus the New York Yankees. That helps headline a full schedule of 15 MLB games.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made the host Mariners a -117 favorite over the Yankees, who are set as +107 underdogs on the moneyline. The over-under is listed at 7 runs. Game time is 10:10PM EST.
Taking the hill for the Yankees is veteran A.J. Burnett, who comes in at 5-3 with a 4.02 earned-run average. Opposing him is Seattle’s young phenom Michael Pineda, who has a 6-2 record and a 2.16 ERA. According to latest MLB trends, Pineda has never faced the Yankees. Burnett is 2-2 with a 3.83 ERA in six career starts versus the Mariners.
Seattle has won eight of its last 10 games to improve its record to 24-25, moving to within 1.5 games of first place in the American League West. The Yankees have won two in a row to move to 27-21 and they are tied with the Boston Red Sox for first in the AL East.
In other American League action, the Detroit Tigers lost 14-1 to the visiting Boston Red Sox Thursday in the first of a four-game series. The Tigers are -113 favorites at 7:05PM EST tonight and the over-under is 9. Tampa Bay is a -161 favorite at 7:15PM EST over the Cleveland Indians, while the over-under is 7.5.
Over in the National League, the Atlanta Braves are a -162 favorite at 7:40PM EST at home against the Cincinnati Reds. The over-under is 7.5. Milwaukee is a -110 favorite at 8:15PM EST versus Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants. The over-under in that contest is 6.5.
On the West coast, the Los Angeles Dodgers are home to face the Florida Marlins at 10:15PM EST. The Dodgers are -118 favorites, while the over-under is set at 7.5.
