Thursday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – The Los Angeles Angels have a chance to move into a tie for first in the AL West Thursday depending on their result versus the visiting Oakland Athletics. That is one of eight matchups on the MLB schedule.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made the Athletics a small -107 favorite, while the Angels are -103 on the moneyline for the 3:35PM EST start. The lover-under is listed at 7 runs.
Starting for Oakland will be left-handed Brett Anderson, who comes in with a 2-4 record along with a 3.18 earned-run average. Opposing him for Los Angeles is Joel Pineiro, who has a 2-0 record and a 2.67 ERA. According to latest MLB trends, Pineiro is 9-8 with a 4.12 ERA in 26 appearances (21 starts) during his career against the Athletics. Anderson is 0-2 with a 4.55 ERA in five career starts versus the Angels.
Elsewhere in the American League, the Boston Red Sox are at the Detroit Tigers for the start of a four-game series. The Tigers are -114 favorites and the over-under is 8.5 for the 1:05PM EST start. Alfredo Aceves (1-0, 2.42 ERA) gets the ball for Boston, while Max Scherzer (6-1, 2.98 ERA) starts for Detroit.
The Toronto Blue Jays host the Chicago White Sox at 7:10PM EST. Toronto is a -134 favorite and the over-under is set at 8. Baltimore is home to face Kansas City at 12:40PM EST. The Orioles are a -139 favorite, while the over-under is 8.5.
Over in the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies outlasted the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 in a 19-inning marathon Wednesday night. The two conclude their series today at 1:10PM EST with Philadelphia being a -155 favorite. The over-under is 7.
