Thursday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – A premier pitching matchup between the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park helps highlight a full Thursday with 15 MLB games scheduled.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the host Red Sox -139 favorites for the 7:10PM EST start, while the Tigers are +129 underdogs. The over-under has been set at 7 runs.
Boston withstood a lengthy rain delay Wednesday night to hold on for a 1-0 victory over Detroit, the fifth straight win for the Red Sox. It was the second consecutive loss for the Tigers following a previous seven-game winning streak.
Justin Verlander will be on the hill for Detroit and he comes in with a 4-3 record along with a 2.91 earned-run average. Boston’s Josh Beckett starts on the other side, coming in with a 3-1 record and a 1.75 ERA.
According to the latest MLB trends, Verlander is 2-2 with a 3.89 ERA versus Boston in five starts. Beckett sports a 3-1 record and a 2.60 ERA in four starts against Detroit.
In other American League action, CC Sabathia gets the start for the New York Yankees as they take on Jeremy Guthrie and the Baltimore Orioles. New York is a -160 favorite and the over-under is set at 8.5 in the 7:05PM EST start.
Over in the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies look for a second straight win over Colorado but are slight underdogs today. The Rockies are -110 favorites and the over-under is currently at 8.5. Game time is set for 7:05PM EST.
