Thursday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – A strong pitching matchup in the National League between the Atlanta Braves and the home Los Angeles Dodgers helps highlight a Thursday with 11 games on the Major League Baseball schedule.
The Dodgers are currently 9-10 after winning two of the first three in the four-game series, while the Braves enter with an 8-11 record. Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made Los Angeles a -130 favorite in the contest, while Atlanta is a +120 underdog. The over-under currently rests at 6.5.
Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 2.96 ERA) will toe the hill in his home stadium for the 3:10PM EST start. The Braves will counter with Jair Jurjjens, who returned from a stint on the disabled list to toss seven shutout innings Saturday in a victory over the New York Mets.
According to the latest trends, Jurjjens is 3-1 with a 3.38 earned-run average in five career starts versus Los Angeles. Kershaw has not recorded a decision in his two career starts against Atlanta, but has posted a 1.98 ERA in 13 2/3 innings.
Elsewhere in the National League, the Cincinnati Reds attempt to avoid the sweep at home at 12:35PM EST as they host the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Reds are -125 favorites and the over-under is 8.5. The Philadelphia Phillies travel out west for a 10:05PM EST start versus the San Diego Padres. The Phillies are a -110 favorite, while the over-under is set at 6.5.
Over in the American League, Cleveland wraps up its series at Kansas City with a 8:10PM EST start. The Indians are a -110 favorite and the over-under is 9. The Boston Red Sox are at the Los Angeles Angels starting at 10:05PM EST. Boston is a -155 favorite, while the over-under is 8.
Oakland is at Seattle for a 10:10PM EST start. Felix Hernandez is on the hill for the Mariners, who are a -145 favorite while the over-under is 6.5.
