Twins’ Gibson allows five runs, loses to White Sox
Kyle Gibson was knocked around for five runs over seven innings and took a loss to the White Sox on Wednesday. On the bright side he struck out seven batters and issued just one walk, but he gave up a whopping 11 base hits — including a solo home run by Jose Abreu. It was just one of those nights when the ball was falling in the gaps. Gibson now has a 2-6 record even though he has pitched quite well for the most part this season. He has a 3.48 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 16 starts and has 93 strikeouts in 95 2/3 innings.
Brewers’ Suter goes seven strong innings in win over Cardinals
Brent Suter allowed two runs over seven innings in a win Thursday against the Cardinals. Suter surrendered just two hits and a walk, pitching even better than his line would indicate. The southpaw also struck out five in the outing. The win was the third in a row for Suter, who improved to 8-4 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through 16 appearances, including 14 starts. Suter will try to make it four straight Wednesday in an interleague matchup with the Royals.
