Twins’ Berrios strikes out 12 in win over Rangers
Jose Berrios struck out 12 hitters in seven shutout innings in a 2-0 victory over the Rangers on Sunday. It was a dominant effort from Berrios against the Texas lineup, as he scattered three hits and walked two hitters to go with the aforementioned 12 punchouts. The right-hander has now allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his past eight starts, and his ERA has lowered to 3.15 in the process. Simply put, there aren’t many who have more talent than Berrios, and he’s shown as much for most of the 2018 season. He’ll look to continue his strong run on Saturday when he squares off against the Cubs.
Cubs’ Montgomery start moved up
Mike Montgomery will make his next start on Friday against the Twins. The rest of the starting rotation for the weekend series against Minnesota has yet to be determined. Montgomery was originally scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Twins, but he gets bumped up a day. We should have an idea of who starts the next two games against the Cubs soon, but it’s unlikely that Yu Darvish will be a part of that equation.
