Brewers’ Guerra strikes out seven in no-decision
Junior Guerra allowed one earned run, three hits and four walks with seven strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Friday against the Cardinals. Guerra needed 106 pitches to get through the outing, throwing just 62 of his pitches for strikes. While he had a wild pitch and a hit batsman he was able to limit the damage. He has allowed three or fewer earned runs in eight consecutive outings but he hasn’t won in seven straight dating back to May 14. He’ll try to get back into the win column Thursday in Cincinnati.
Reds’ DeScalfani beats Cubs with arm and bat
Anthony DeSclafani yielded two runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings while hitting a grand slam in Saturday’s 11-2 win over the Cubs. DeSclafani did fine work in limiting the Cubs over his 6 1/3 innings on the mound (he did walk four), but the real story here is his show with the bat. He came through in unexpected style with the bases loaded and two outs in the third inning, smashing a grand slam to left center off Brian Duensing to boost his team to an 8-1 lead Having helped himself thusly, he would go on to pitch into the seventh inning. He’ll bring a 4.09 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 18/8 K/BB ratio (four starts covering 22 innings) into a home date with the White Sox in his next scheduled outing.
MLB Betting Trends
Milwaukee
The Brewers are a perfect 5-0 in their last five games versus the Reds.
Cincinnati
The Reds have won nine of their last 10 games overall.
Prediction:
Guerra has pitched well this season but the Brewers have had trouble winning for him, especially on the road, where they’re 2-6 in his last eight road outings. The Brewers have dominated the Reds in previous meetings but this is a different Cincinnati team at the moment. They’re 5-0 in their last five games against the division, are a perfect 7-0 in their last seven home games, and are 4-1 in DeSclafani’s last five starts. I’m rolling with them.
The Pick: Cincinnati Reds -105
