Marlins’ Straily coming off positive outing vs. Mets
Dan Straily gave up just one run over six innings but didn’t stick around long enough to earn a decision against the Mets on Wednesday. He served up a solo dinger to outfielder Brandon Nimmo but that was the only dent in the scoreboard. He struck out five batters, walked three and allowed four hits. His record holds at 2-0 with a shiny 3.12 ERA and not-so-shiny 1.38 WHIP after five starts. He missed the season’s first month with right forearm inflammation.
Padres’ Ross dominant in victory over Nationals
Tyson Ross was excellent in a win over the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts in a 3-1 victory. Matt Adams had three hits and a homer off of Ross. The rest of the Nationals lineup had two hits total. It’s just another in an excellent stretch of starts for the 31-year-old right-hander, and his ERA is now down to 3.13 on the season. One can’t help but wonder what the Padres could get in return for the right-hander, but for now, he’s the team’s best starting pitcher. We’ll see him back on the bump for San Diego against the Marlins next Tuesday.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are now a perfect 6-0 in their last six games against the Padres and are 5-2 in their last seven games played at Petco Park.
San Diego
The Padres are 4-1 in Ross’ lat five starts and are 8-1 in his last nine outings when coming off five days of rest.
Prediction:
I like the Padres in this matchup but I don’t want to pay -150 for a team that is 22-33 on the year and 11-19 at home. Thus, let’s take a look at the total. The under has cashed in eight of Ross’ last nine starts, is 8-3-2 in his last 13 home outings and is 3-1-1 in Straily’s last five road starts. While Straily has had some rough outings this season, Ross has been dominant and both of these clubs struggle offensively as a whole. I like the under.
The Pick: Marlins/Padres under 7
