Houston Astros Fantasy Spin
Justin Verlander recorded eight strikeouts over seven innings of one-run ball in a win over the Athletics on Saturday. Verlander generated an eye-popping 23 swinging strikes and needed only 114 pitches (77 strikes) to complete eight stellar frames. He also passed Hall of Famer Cy Young for 21st on the all-time strikeout list and is up to 2,809 whiffs for his career. A solo homer by Stephen Piscotty in the second inning represented the lone tally against him in this one. He’ll carry a 9-2 record with a pristine 2.27 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 103/19 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Mariners on Thursday.
Seattle Mariners Fantasy Spin
Tommy Milone allowed three runs over 4 1/3 innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Angels. Milone allowed seven hits, and he walked two while striking out six. The southpaw gave up a two-run homer to Albert Pujols in the first inning, and he gave up another run on a double by Cesar Puello in the third. Milone had pitched reasonably well in his first two starts of the season, but pitched more like the version we’ve seen over the last five years. It’s very hard to take the 32-year-old as a legitimate fantasy option. Milone faces the Astros on Thursday.
