Can White Sox halt losing skid vs. Astros?
Mat Latos seems to have stepped into a time machine. That, or the South Side simply suits him better than coastal weather.
The resurgent righty tries to keep the White Sox in line tonight against the Astros, with an 8:10 p.m. ET first pitch at U.S. Cellular Field. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI actually prefer the visitors here. Chicago, meanwhile, enters as a -101 underdog. The over/under total resides at 8.5 runs.
Latos’ 2016 work stands in stark contrast to the past several seasons’ worth of results out West and with Miami. In fact, his current 5-0 record and 3.40 ERA brings to mind the hurler who won 14 games on two separate occasions as a Red early in the decade. Also impressive: Latos’ 4-1 record with a 3.86 ERA in seven career turns vs. Houston.
Manager A.J. Hinch counters with his own righty in the midst of a renaissance. Doug Fister (3-3, 4.22), cast off by Washington, yielded six runs across 5 2/3 innings in his second assignment of the campaign. Since then, he’s 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA in five consecutive quality starts.

Unfortunately for the Stros, Fister has permitted nine runs in 10 frames over the last two outings in Chi-Town. Robin Ventura’s hitters are eager to bounce back from three straight pedestrian performances, too. Look for Adam Eaton, Melky Cabrera and the rest of the gang to aid Latos’ cause – and help the White Sox on their AL Central-best 24-15 mark.
