Reds’ Romano gets pounded by Cubs in last start
Sal Romano was deconstructed to the tune of seven runs on six hits over five innings in Saturday’s loss to the Cubs in the second game of a doubleheader. Romano could not find the plate in this one, walking six while throwing just 62 of his 98 pitches for strikes. It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Cubs really opened it up on the scoreboard, though, posting five runs in the frame to end Romano’s night. He will bring a soggy 5.62 ERA and 1.55 WHIP into a road start against the Rockies next time out.
Rockies’ Gray allows five runs to Giants in loss
Jon Gray surrendered five runs in 3 2/3 innings and was charged with a loss to the Giants on Saturday. He gave up a lot of contact in this one, allowing nine hits and a walk in the brief start. He can’t blame the poor results on Coors Field as this was played at AT&T Park, one of the best pitchers’ parks in baseball. Gray falls to 4-6 with a 5.34 ERA and 1.40 WHIP after 10 starts.
