Nolan Arenado clobbered a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning on Saturday, propelling the Cardinals to a 6-4 victory over the visiting Reds. Arenado helped to close the gap earlier in the contest with an RBI triple off of Luis Castillo in the sixth inning. He then came in to score the tying run on Dylan Carlson’s run-scoring double. Arenado then tagged Lucas Sims with his go-ahead two-run blast with two outs in the eighth inning. He finished the night 2-for-4 and is now hitting .254/.309/.497 with 30 homers and 94 RBI in his first season with the Cardinals.

Jacob deGrom told reporters on Thursday that his elbow ligament is “perfectly fine.” “I know what was said, but my ligament is perfectly fine,” deGrom said. “I’ve been throwing. I wouldn’t be throwing if I had a compromised ligament. That’s the plan, to continue to throw and build up and see where we end up.” There’s been a lot of confusing information about deGrom’s injury — both past and future — and this doesn’t clear up much. There are no guarantees that the ace returns to the mound in 2021.
