Red Sox’ Price takes care of Mariners in last start
David Price pitched seven one-run innings and struck out seven in a 2-1 victory over the Mariners on Thursday. Price had a dandy of a pitching duel with Felix Hernandez, and it was the Boston southpaw who came out on top on Thursday night. The only run allowed was on a sac fly by Guillermo Heredia in the bottom of the fifth, and outside of that inning Price completely silenced the Seattle offense. Price will take a 3.76 ERA and 79 strikeouts (in 81 1/3 innings) into his next start on Wednesday against the Twins.
Twins’ Lynn posts quality start in loss to Tigers
Lance Lynn logged a quality start in Thursday’s loss to the Tigers, allowing three runs on five hits over his 6 2/3 innings of work. The right-hander racked up nine strikeouts on the afternoon and only issued one walk. He shut the Tigers down through the first six frames, but they broke through for three runs in the seventh, capped by a two-run blast by JaCoby Jones. It’s his fifth straight quality start after a disastrous start to the season. He’ll carry a 4.98 ERA and 1.60 WHIP into a difficult matchup against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
