Red Sox’ Price allows just two runs in win over Blue Jays
David Price allowed two runs over five innings in a win over the Blue Jays on Monday. Price wasn’t at his best, allowing four hits while walking four. He labored through the second inning while managing to keep the Blue Jays off the board. Price has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in all four starts since returning from carpal tunnel syndrome. He’s lowered his ERA from 5.11 to 4.04 during that time. He’ll try to keep things going in a challenging matchup against the Astros this weekend.
Astros’ Verlander holds Yankees to one run in last start
Justin Verlander held the Yankees to one run over 6 2/3 innings as part of a 5-1 win on Monday. The only damage was a solo shot from Greg Bird in his final frame. Otherwise, Verlander was brilliant, allowing just five hits in all while fanning five and walking none. He’s allowed one earned run or fewer in five straight starts. Verlander has been nothing short of amazing since joining the Astros last summer. He’s now 7-2 this year to go along with a major league-best 1.11 ERA
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 1-6 in their last seven games versus the Astros and are winless in their last four games played at Minute Maid Park.
Houston
The over is now 24-11 in the last 35 meetings between these two teams and is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Houston.
Prediction:
Perhaps tonight we’ll get the pitcher’s duel that I tried to predict yesterday (miserably, I might add) but I like the Astros too much to pass on them here. They’re 17-5 in Verlander’s last 22 starts and 8-3 in his last 11 home outings. They’re also 10-2 in his last 12 starts coming off four days of rest. While he gets to face a Boston lineup without Mookie Betts (DL), Price will square off against an offense that is red-hot. While Price has pitched well of late, I’m going to lay the expensive price on Houston.
The Pick: Houston Astros -170
