Diamondbacks’ Ray continues to pitch well in April
Robbie Ray struck out nine batters and allowed two runs in six innings against the Giants on Wednesday. He served up a two-run homer by Evan Longoria in his sixth and final inning of work but that was the extent of the damage.
The game wasn’t decided until the 10th inning so Ray did not factor into the decision. He has struggled with the walk this year and issued three more in this performance. The left-hander has a 2-0 record with a 4.98 ERA after four starts. He has an amazing 32 strikeouts and 14 walks in 21 2/3 innings.
Phillies Velasquez also pitching well to start season
Vince Velasquez surrendered three runs in six innings and was charged with a loss to the Braves on Wednesday. He struck out seven batters against just one walk but allowed seven hits — including a big three-run tater by third baseman Ryan Flaherty.
Velasquez is finally healthy and it shows in his performance. He has no problem piling up strikeouts but is prone to the longball. He falls to 1-2 with a 3.80 ERA to go with 24 strikeouts and five walks in 21 1/3 innings. His next start will come against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are a perfect 7-0 in their last seven road games versus Philadelphia and are 6-1 in their last seven games versus the Phillies overall.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are just 8-20 in their last 28 starts, are 4-10 in his last 14 home starts and are 1-4 in his last five outings when facing an opponent from the National League West.
Prediction:
Ray and the Diamondbacks are too good to pass up at this price. They’re 19-7 in Ray’s last 26 starts, are 7-1 in his last eight road outings and are a perfect 5-0 in his last five outings coming off five days of rest. Both of these starters have fared well early but I’ll jump on the D-Backs at a cheap price.
The Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -104
