Diamondbacks’ Buchholz solid over six innings in win vs. Giants

Clay Buchholz struck out eight hitters over six two-run innings in a victory over the Giants on Saturday. Buchholz came out blazing, striking out five hitters in the first two innings. The veteran right-hander has been a very pleasant surprise for the Diamondbacks in 2018, and outside of a pair of iffy outings, he’s been a reliable part of the Arizona rotation. Raise your hand if you thought Buchholz would have a 2.68 ERA over 57 innings with a 51/14 K/BB ratio when the season started. You’re lying. The Reds are next for Buchholz on Friday.

Reds’ DeSclafani pitches well in win over Nationals

Anthony DeSclafani pitched well as the Reds defeated the Nationals in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, allowing just one run over seven strong innings. The right-hander scattered six hits and a walk while striking out two on the afternoon. The only blemish on his day came when Juan Soto scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Ryan Zimmerman in the second inning. DeSclafani has been inconsistent this season, which isn’t unusual in his first season back from a major surgery, but he has shown flashes of the upside that has always been there. He’ll look to further improve upon his 4.98 ERA and 1.31 WHIP when he takes on the Diamondbacks at home on Friday

MLB Betting Trends

Arizona

The Diamondbacks have won 19 of their last 26 games on the road and are 9-3 in their last 12 games following an off day.

Cincinnati

The Reds have lost four of their last five games overall but are 4-1 in their last five home games.

Prediction:

The Diamondbacks have won eight of their last 11 games against the Reds in Cincinnati. They’re also 4-0 in Buchholz’s last four starts, are 6-0 in his last six outings when their opponent allowed five runs or more in its previous game, and are 4-1 in their last five road games facing a right-handed starter. The Reds, meanwhile, are winless in their last six games versus a right-handed starter and have dropped all five of DeSclafani’s last five outings when he’s coming off a quality start in his last appearance.

The Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -125
