Arizona Diamondbacks Fantasy Spin
Christian Walker went 4-for-4 with a walk and a double on Saturday in a win over the Cubs on Saturday. He also scored a run. With the double, Walker already has six two-baggers on the year, and he ups his season line to .353/.421/.706 to begin the 2019 campaign. This is obviously not sustainable — not to this level — but Walker was considered one of the top prospects at the first base position not long ago, and he certainly has looked the part so far. A speculative add is worthwhile at this point, assuming he is still available.
Chicago Cubs Fantasy Spin
Yu Darvish allowed three runs over five innings on Saturday in a loss to the Diamondbacks with three walks and seven strikeouts. Darvish really struggled in the first two innings; particularly in the first frame when he allowed solo homers to Eduardo Escobar and David Peralta. He allowed a sac fly in the second inning, but after that, the veteran 32-year-old settled down quite nicely. Unfortunately, the damage was done and Darvish got zero run support while picking up his third loss of the season. Darvish now owns a 5.96 ERA over his first five starts, and he’ll take that mark into his start on Thursday against the Dodgers. There have been enough flashes to suggest he’ll get this figured out, but it’s understandable if you’re frustrated by Darvish’s beginning to 2019.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 5-2 in Robbie Ray’s last seven road starts.
Chicago
The Cubs have won five of Tyler Chatwood’s last six starts.
Prediction:
Robbie Ray boasts a 22.2% strikeout rate against lefties, which ranks 18th in the majors. That said, he also owns a 16.3% walk rate, which is problematic against a Cubs lineup that is extremely patient. Tyler Chatwood, meanwhile, also struggles with walks. In fact, he hands out more free passes than you’ll collect brochures on the strip. With the wind also possibly blowing out at Wrigley today, this looks like the perfect spot to take the over.
The Pick: Diamondbacks/Cubs OVER 9.5
