Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made the Rockies +2500 on the money line to win the 2011 World Series and +450 to win the NL West Division. The also have an over/under total of 86 for number of wins this season.

Offseason Additions: The Rox gave pitcher Jorge de la Rosa a three-year, $32 million contract this offseason and also signed Ty Wigginton to a two-year, $8 million deal. Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez, Jason Hammel, Rafael Betancourt and Matt Belisle all got new deals while Felipe Paulino, Jose Lopez, Jose Marales, Matt Lindstron and Clayton Mortensen were acquired via trades.

Offseason Losses: The club parted ways with Melvin Mora, Jeff Francis, Clint Barmes, Manny Corpas, Octavio Dotel, Miguel Olivo, Chaz Roe, Ethan Hollingsworth, Paul Bargas, Jonnathan Aristil and Wes Musick. A handful of those players were lost in trades.

Season Outlook: It’s hard not to love the Rockies’ chances of success in 2011. They have three stars in Tulowitzki, CarGo and Ubaldo Jimenez, as well as enough talent around those players to make a deep run. That said, they did very little in the offseason outside of re-signing their own guys and they need players like De La Rosa to take the next step. The Giants are the defending world champs, but their offense is still a bit of a mystery and they didn’t win the division until the final day of the regular season. The point is that they’re not a dominant club and could be had, but the Rockies can’t wait until August to have a sense of urgency. Too many times in the past, Colorado has sifting through the first half and much of the season, only to ratchet things up in the final month or so and go on a run. This team could do some serious damage but they must get it going much earlier this season.
