(The Spread) – Unless a few more players have some magical seasons in them, the Toronto Blue Jays could really struggle to compete in 2011.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Blue Jays +8000 on the money line to win the 2011 World Series and +2000 to win the AL East. Their over/under total for number of wins in 2011 has been set at 76.5.

Biggest Offseason Addition: The biggest move the Blue Jays made was re-signing Jose Bautista, even though he may very well turn out to be a one-year wonder. But he wasn’t addition, so pick from the list of Frank Francisco, Rajai Davis and Juan Rivera. Davis is being viewed as the everyday centerfielder and while he doesn’t bring much to the plate, he does have a ton of speed and plays good defense.

Biggest Loss: Vernon Wells hands down, although the Jays actually won here because they somehow tricked another team into taking on his ridiculous salary. What were the Angels thinking to take on Wells’ contract? Good luck with that, even if he does play well this season. The Jays also parted ways with Shawn Marcum, who is now in Milwaukee’s starting rotation, as well as John Buck.

Season Outlook: Would anyone be shocked if the Jays contended this season? I wouldn’t, but I don’t expect it either. There are too many question marks surrounding this team, including whether or not Jose Bautista will be the player he was in the first four years of his career or the player he was last season. Also, is Ricky Romero an ace? Can youngster Kyle Drabek produce? Can Yunel Escobar put away his attitude and contribute? This definitely isn’t a bad team but the loss of Wells, Buck and Marcum is going to hurt their chances of keeping pace with teams like the Red Sox and Yankees. Simply put, the Jays don’t have enough weapons to compete in a stacked division.
